This is the first of a long-awaited series of instructional videos by Aisha Ali. The video begins with a brief background description of Tunisian Dance, then takes you to the studio where Ms. Ali explains and demonstrates the techniques. Her examples include eleven Tunisian rhythms, and each example is followed by a rhythmic variation performed in costume and accompanied by Tunisian folk music. The instructional section is followed by five complete dances in a variety of authentic costumes. Music from ARAF CD 704 Tunisian Dances or CD 708 Tunisian Rhythms is used for the demonstration performances. The viewer has the option to play the feature through or to concentrate on individual movement examples or dances. Text is included, giving details of the narrative material and describing the movements. A Tunisian costume demonstration has beed added to the DVD version Aisha Ali has contributed to the field of dance as a performer; choreographer, documentary film-maker and producer of audio recordings. She has done independent research throughout Egypt and North Africa, collecting folkloric traditions that were fast disappearing. This material has been released on six Arabic music CDs and two video documentaries, Dances of Egypt and Dances of North Africa. Her latest productions, Aisha Dances Vol. I and II, present sixteen examples of Aisha's 1st popular repertoire from various regions of the Middle East.
